She was really excited to go and I was really excited to take her. A weekday at the Apple store is less busy than a weekend at the Apple store, so we got there just after they had opened. We spent quite a while there so she could get a feel for it, decide on a color (she picked white), and decide what model she wanted. Knowing how she was going to be using the iPad, I was able to steer her away from the most expensive model and explain to her that she would have more than enough space on a 32GB iPad. Then I had to explain the differences between the Wi-Fi model and the one that also has a cellular connection. I wanted to make sure she knew what she was getting and I felt like I did a pretty good job explaining what was what. She ultimately decided she wanted the one with the cellular connection even though she said she'll probably never use it. She liked the idea of being able to take it with her in the car if she were the passenger on a road trip or if she were going on vacation somewhere.
Once we had the iPad in hand, an Apple store employee put the case on the device and showed her how to use it. I have to say, they train their employees so well because my explanations paled in comparison to his. He had her making all of the gestures and pressing the buttons and really showed her how to begin using it. She was like a kid in a candy store.
After we left the store, we strolled into Sephora because she had only recently discovered it existed and couldn't wait to go into another store. When I told her she could use her new iPad to buy products online and have them delivered to her house, she couldn't believe it. She certainly liked that idea! We perused for a while and she made some purchases before going to lunch at the Nordstrom cafe. She originally thought she'd order soup, but she kept walking over to look at the dessert. Turns out we both ordered the triple berry shortcake and indulged instead of eating a traditional lunch. I'm always happy with dessert and I know Pocket Nana has a sweet tooth!

Pocket Nana could not wait to get home and call Comcast to come install wireless Internet in her home. I told her once she had everything set up that I would come over, set her up with an email address, an Apple ID, and even a Facebook account if she so desired. Knowing her, she'll be surfing the web and shopping online in no time!
