Friday the 13th

Very superstitious, writing's on the wall
Very superstitious, ladder's 'bout to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the looking' glass
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past.

Are you superstitious?

I am to an extent, but really only about the number 13. I used to run under ladders just to try and cheat fate. I've broken mirrors and feared the worst, only to be met with seven years of pretty good luck rather than bad. I would welcome black cats with open arms and step on cracks in the sidewalk. These days I'm not as apt to open an umbrella indoors and I especially do not look forward to any Friday the 13th.

It seems as though this whole week has been a series of misfortunes leading up to today. Early this week I was unpleasantly met with a red and white swipe on the bumper of my light blue car because apparently an incompetent driver is on the loose. They didn't leave a note. I'm hoping I can just buff it out. Paper has been my enemy this week and I'm sporting paper cuts on nearly every one of my digits. I had a 5AM wake up call from someone at the front gate. The first call I didn't hear, but the second had me startled awake and wondering why they chose my code. I don't know anyone who wants to come visit me at 5 in the morning, so I definitely didn't open the gate, but then I couldn't fall back asleep. And that's just a taste of this past week.

Today started off much like the rest of my week with a 3:33AM jolt. So now it's my least favorite day AND I'm being woken up at an inconvenient time. Grrrrreat. I somehow managed to fall back asleep nearly an hour later, but then it was hard to wake up to get ready for work when my alarm went off. Ten minutes behind schedule and I'm struggling to get ready. When I heard the first whistle of the train, I knew I was behind. Then, I dropped cereal all over the floor (there is something to be said about haste makes waste). After quickly cleaning it up and running out the door, I heard the second whistle of the train, which meant I was definitely late. I'm sure I can attribute any and all mishaps this morning to just plain getting up late, but why not blame Friday the 13th instead? Especially when I have a horoscope like this:

Your horoscope for January 13, 2012

Computers, fax machines, and other modern equipment, which you use on the job, could go totally haywire today, limiting your abilities to work at maximum efficiency. Though you are usually very calm and laid back, Krista, today the mad bull in you may be tempted to emerge. Don't give in! It will only cause tension between you and those around you. Stay calm and focused, call in a technician, and enjoy the break from your routine.

My work day has so far been fairly pleasant, despite the morning cry session I had after a half an hour of being at work (I'm chalking that one up to hormones). There have been no major malfunctions with office equipment and I'm crossing my fingers that I get to go home early. As long as things are looking up, I'm okay with today being the 13th, sort of. I certainly won't be looking forward to the other two this year.

For now, I'm just trying to look on the bright side.
Today is Friday after all, which means I'm starting my weekend very shortly.
